It's a common problem for tennis beginners, having trouble with their serve. It could be either balls hitting the next, or going totally away... Either way there's something you have to do to improve your serve. Below I am going to give you a couple of tips, that you can and should put to practice, because as I have found from my own experience, it's all in the details.
TIP #1:
If you have watched any tennis pro player, you will notice that everyone toss the ball at the exactly right spot every time. Being consistent with the toss requires rhythm and practice.
Wonder what is the right spot in that case? It's very simple to find out.
Just get in your serving stance, and fully extend your racquet upward and toss the ball just above the top frame of the racquet. That is the right spot! And keep in mind that it's better to toss it a little higher, than lower.
TIP #2:
Make some challenges for yourself like keep aiming at a very specific part of the service box. Try and see how many out of 10 you can hit wide or down the middle. And how many second serves you can make without missing.
TIP #3:
Pay Attention To Your Foot
Before mastering the serve, it is very important that you can control your balance. You might be blaming your toss, but it could be your foot that is causing the problem. If your front foot is moving around to accommodate an errant toss, you're going to hit from an unstable base. It's fine to drag your back foot up during your service motion, but that front foot, apart from turning slightly to assist your upper-body rotation, should stay where it is.
Keep in mind that if you want all those tips to work, you have to keep practice them. I guarantee you, nothing will happen overnight. Just set your goal and you will eventually achieve it!

Now I know it all sounds good, but I used to be in that place too. My serve just made everybody around laugh, and we spent most of our time gathering the balls around. However I little by little, and with patience, I managed to take it up to the desired level and now we have quite a few interesting matches with my friends.
